Stafford is one of the many municipalities making up what is known throughout the area as the “Jersey Shore”. It’s also the last town on the mainland you’ll travel through if you’re visiting Long Beach Island, as Route 72 traverses the area and eventually leads to the Causeway Bridge when you near the bay.
Don’t just write off Stafford as a “pass through” town though! Stafford is home to a variety of wildlife areas, residential communities, and some of the best restaurants in Southern Ocean County.

In the northern portion of the municipality, you’ll find Ocean Acres, a family-friendly residential community situated next to a lake and Golf Course. Residents and visitors alike can enjoy Ocean Acres Lake Park, a well-maintained park, complete with jungle gyms, tennis courts, a picnic area and restroom facilities.
Head to the eastern border of the town and you’ll find Beach Haven West, a community made up mainly of lagoon homes. You’ll find a mix of year long residents and vacation rentals throughout this area. The quick access to the Barnegat Bay makes this particular neighborhood attractive for fishermen and water lovers.
Located just north of Beach Haven West, you’ll find two of the best restaurants around. Whether your taste is for land or sea, the Mud City Crab House and The Old Causeway Steak & Oyster House have something for everyone! These two restaurants are owned and operated by the same family and draw huge crowds in the summer time. Reservations or call-aheads are highly recommended!
If you’re looking for a more casual dining experience, Livin’ on the Veg located in the Manahawkin Mart is a favorite among locals. They offer a completely vegan-friendly menu, but you don’t need to be a vegan to enjoy their tasty dishes!
