Lacey Township is a part of the Jersey Shore, with one of its most notable features being a watershed leading out to the Barnegat Bay, known as Forked River. Forked River provides a habitat for many rare and threatened wildlife and plant species. Oh, and you know you’re a local if you just pronounced “Forked” in the previous sentences as two syllables, i.e., “FORK-ed”. Pronounce it as “Forkt”, and it’s a dead giveaway you’re an out of towner!
Forked River isn’t just a wildlife habitat, it’s also home to some of the coolest dining spots in Ocean County. Captain’s Inn is a popular dock n’ dine destination among boaters. While they offer fine dining indoors, a more casual menu is offered outside at the tiki bar. Also accessible by land and sea, is The Waterfront, a restaurant providing a unique rooftop dining experience. You’ll be treated to great views if you can catch rooftop seating during sunset on a warm summer day!
Lacey Township is also home to Popcorn Park, a refuge for animals in need. Located in the scenic Pine Barrens, Popcorn Park is home to over 200 exotic animals, farm animals, birds and wildlife. A modest price of entry will provide any animal lover with hours of enjoyment.
If you’re an outdoor enthusiast, be sure to check out Enos Pond County Park, a 28-acre nature area bordering the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. In cooperation with federal entities, the two parks have developed trails which traverse both properties. One of the trails was designed specifically for wheel chair accessibility.
