Beachwood

What is now known as the Borough of Beachwood started out as a small cottage development in 1914.  In a plan backed by the New-York Tribune, over 1700 acres of Berkeley Township were purchased with the intent of starting a summer colony named “Beachwood”.  Buyers in 1914 paid only $19.60 for a 100’ x 20’ lot and received a 6-month subscription to the Tribune as a bonus gift for the purchase… Oh, how times have changed!

Beachwood is home to Jake’s Branch County Park, known by some as “The Gateway to The Pines”.  Jake’s Branch is a popular destination for local dog walkers and hikers, as the lush forest with windy, sandy walking trails provides the ideal environment to connect with nature.  Mountain bikers can enjoy the trails too, and locally renowned Beachwood Bikes is just a stone’s throw away if you find yourself in need of parts or service. Photographers, be sure to pack your zoom lenses!  The nature center observation deck will put you 5 stories above the pine barrens with an unobstructed 360-degree view of the forest below.

The unique landscape of Beachwood gives visitors the ability to lose themselves in the middle of the pine barrens, and just minutes later, relax waterside along the Toms River. Head to Beachwood Beach for some of the area’s best sunset photo opportunities.
