Lakehurst is a small town in Ocean County, best known around the globe as the location of the Hindenburg disaster in 1937. The airship was attempting to land at Lakehurst Naval Air Station, which is still an active naval base to this day. Now known as Lakehurst Maxfield, the base is mainly used for Naval aviation development programs and is a Naval component of Joint Base McGuire–Dix–Lakehurst.
