The Township of Monroe, the largest county in Middlesex County, covers over 42 square-miles of the Raritan Valley Region. It is not surprisingly home to the largest park in the county, Thompson Park. This park encompasses 675 acres and includes a dog park, an animal haven, as well as sports fields, playgrounds, and hiking trails. Visitors can canoe and kayak as well as fish on Manalapan Lake. Other Monroe parks include Veteran’s Park Playground and Spray Park and the James Monroe Memorial Park.

Gardeners in Ocean, Monmouth, and Middlesex Counties know the name Gasko’s Family Farm. They have trees and shrubs, plants and flowers, gardening accessories and decorations. Their large selection and great prices attract green thumbs from miles around. In close proximity are Countryview Farm Nursery and A.N.T. Nursery, Inc., but Monroe has no shortage of nurseries all over the township.
In 2022, MoneyGeek’s Safest Small Cities and Towns in America report named Monroe the safest city in New Jersey and the 6th safest in America. This municipality has a large population of adults aged 55 and older. There are over a dozen age restricted communities and a large, active Senior Center. The programs, events, and educational classes are all aimed at helping the towns senior residents remain engaged with the community, stay active, and thrive in life.
