When it comes to history, Cranbury Township has an interesting one. During the American Revolutionary War, a home in Cranbury was used by George Washington to plan the Battle of Monmouth. Today, Cranbury is one of the most well-preserved towns in Middlesex County and has a historic district that covers 175-acres which includes 177 buildings. The town also excels at preserving farmlands and has many parks and open space properties. If you look at an aerial view of Cranbury, most of the township is farmland and preserved land.
Beautiful Brainerd Lake is in the middle of town, flanked by lakefront homes on one side and Village Park on the opposite bank. Just down the street is the Cranbury Public Library and the Cranbury Museum, a historic home which has been preserved and converted into a museum. Go the other direction and you’ll find the Cranbury firehouse and another of Cranbury’s preserved historical homes.
