Deal

In the 1670’s, a farmer, Thomas White, from Deale, England settled along the coast of the Jersey Shore in Monmouth County. Others who joined him decided to name the area Deal in tribute of their homeland. Just as many towns in Monmouth County, water is a big part of Deal. Residents can enjoy fresh water activities in addition to enjoying the beauty of the coastline along the Atlantic.

One of the biggest attractions in northern Deal is Deal Lake. It is a 158-acre man-made lake making it the largest in the county and one of the largest lakes in New Jersey. Seven municipalities border this lake. It began as an estuary of the Atlantic Ocean until it was closed off in the 1890’s. This stunning urban lake provides residents with entertainment all year long including fishing, kayaking, and ice skating.

If salt water is your preference, check out the Conover Pavilion and the Deal Casino Beach Club. The beach season runs from mid-June through early September and lifeguards are on duty every day from 10am weekdays and 9am on weekends through 6pm during the season. The beach club is a private club offering members cabanas, a pool, and play areas for kids as well as restrooms with showers.

Theatre fans will want to check out the Axelrod Performing Arts Center.  Tickets for upcoming musicals can be purchased right on their website and they have free onsite parking.
