Two sides of the borough of Sayreville are lined by water. The southern banks of the Raritan River make of the northern edge of town and the Raritan Bay is to the east. Anyone who has travelled south on the Garden State Parkway over the Driscoll Bridge has driven through Sayreville. The parkway service found in town is named after Jon Bon Jovi who was born here.
Music lovers have most likely heard of the Starland Ballroom on Jernee Mill Rd. This venue has been open since 2003 and has hosted artists like local NJ natives Jon Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen. After the venue suffered severe damage as a result of Hurricane Sandy, the doors were closed for 10 months. Turning this into an opportunity to upgrade the venue, the doors reopened in 2013 and an average of 115 music events of all types happen here every year.
The southern part of town offers a variety of sports fields and activities. Interested in cricket? Sayreville has the Cricmax Facility that offers lane rentals, coaching, and product sales. Directly behind their facility is the Sayreville Sports Complex with soccer and softball fields. Just down the street, horse lovers can plan a visit to Legacy Riding Stables. They have 500 acres of riding trails and provide lessons and summer camps. In the middle of town is the large John F. Kennedy Park. There is a large fishing lake here as well as a skate park and tennis courts.
